ATEC is a leader in technology for decarbonising cooking. They provide low-income households with electric stoves, incorporated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to track each stove’s usage data. Stove-usage data from each household can be used to generate digitally verified carbon credits which are sold to cover costs and produce a financial return for households and ATEC.
Save the Children brings a wealth of knowledge, network and opportunities that will support our shared mission to decarbonise cooking for all women and children across the Global South.

Why did we invest?
Four billion people lack access to clean, modern cooking services. The issue affects women and girls in particular, who lose around 13 hours per week cooking with biomass, resulting in less time for education or employment.
The harmful smoke generated from cooking with biomass leads to almost four million deaths per year. This is almost three times more than global deaths from traffic accidents.
Stove-usage data from each household can be used to generate digitally verified carbon credits. These carbon credits are sold to cover costs and produce a financial return for households.
Save the Children is designing clean cooking projects with ATEC Global that will provide access to low-income households. Together, we can improve health outcomes and generate income, while also reducing CO2 emissions and creating climate impact.
Mission alignment with Save the Children
Clean cookstoves improve health outcomes for families. They also free up time for employment or education for women and girls, provides a financial return to households and create strong climate benefits.
Sustainable Development Goals
